PREEMPTIVE PARDONS WEAPONIZE OUR LEGAL SYSTEM

Here lies the opinion of another kid from Chebanse. Do with it what you will. I have to say, the prospect of this is really upsetting.

In recent discussions surrounding the Biden administration, the prospect of preemptive pardons for individuals associated with President Biden and his administration has emerged as a contentious issue. While proponents argue that these pardons are necessary to shield political allies from potential retribution, I contend that, especially coming from the party that has already weaponized the legal system for its own gain, they represent a troubling trend that undermines the principles of justice and accountability. If implemented, such pardons should be challenged and overturned by the Supreme Court.

Preemptive pardons could set a dangerous precedent that allows individuals to evade consequences for their actions, particularly when those actions may involve criminal conduct. If the administration were to shield its members from potential legal repercussions, it would send a clear message: that political connections matter more than accountability under the law. This undermines the very fabric of our judicial system, which is designed to hold all individuals accountable, regardless of their social, economical, or political affiliations. If these pardons are deemed constitutional, what’s to stop every future President from weaponizing the justice system and then issuing blanket pardons for all involved? How do you think the democrats would react if President Trump issued blanket pardons to his entire cabinet before he leaves office? The media would scrutinize those actions relentlessly and call for yet another sham impeachment.

It is essential to recognize that the issuance of pardons is a blatant attempt to weaponize the justice system, as they have done against President Trump numerous times. By preemptively pardoning individuals, the Biden administration, in my opinion, is acknowledging guilt while simultaneously attempting to silence the prospect of legal scrutiny. This tactic not only reflects poorly on the integrity of those involved but also raises questions about the motivations behind such actions. Even many democrats are speaking out against it.

One of the most glaring issues with preemptive pardons is the potential for a double standard in how justice is applied. If individuals in power can secure immunity from prosecution simply because they belong to a particular political party, it creates an environment of inequality. The rule of law must apply uniformly to all citizens, regardless of political affiliation. The perception of a two-tiered justice system erodes public trust in our institutions and fuels division within our society.

If the Biden administration proceeds with these preemptive pardons, it is imperative that the Supreme Court step in to uphold the principles of justice and accountability. The Court has a responsibility to ensure that the Constitution is upheld and that no individual, regardless of their political connections, is above the law. A ruling against preemptive pardons would reaffirm the notion that lady justice must be blind and that all individuals must be held to the same standards.

Preemptive pardons, particularly when issued to shield political allies from potential legal consequences, pose a significant threat to the principles of justice and accountability that establish our democracy. They risk creating a culture of impunity and further politicizing the justice system. As citizens who believe in the integrity of our legal framework, we must advocate for a system that prioritizes accountability over political expediency. The Supreme Court has a crucial role in safeguarding these values, and it must act decisively to prevent the misuse of pardons for partisan gain. We must strive for a society where justice is not only served but is seen to be served, for all.
