A CHANGE IS GONNA COME
Holy cow, did anyone notice how tall Baron Trump has gotten? That’s not what this commentary is about, but I had to tell someone.
Now that the election is behind us, I have some observations that might be discussed concerning future presidential elections.
First, congratulations to President Trump on his historic landslide victory. It was a hard-won battle, even if he was opposed by a grossly unqualified candidate. It’s astonishing that over 67 million people voted for her for the sole reason she wasn’t Trump, an absurd reason to jeopardize this country’s future.
It seemed Trump ran for president for nearly ten years, but you must admire his endurance. At 78 years old he kept a grueling schedule that made me tired, and I’m eleven years younger. With his win, all the current trumped-up lawsuits from the Democrats go away.
But there is no doubt our presidential campaigns are becoming uglier and nastier. Trump irritatingly called people names daily. Many die-hard Trump supporters, me among them, cringed when he speaks like that.
Worse, Harris or sidekick, Walz, put Trump’s life in danger by calling him names such as fascist or a Nazi. It actually induced people to try to kill him. There is no call in a civilized society for any of that rhetoric and we should demand they restore decorum.
Perhaps we should invoke a something like a Negativity Clause with heavy fines or censorship if one is pointing instead at their opponents. Demand politicians cease talking about their opponent and instead tell us how their ideas are better for America. I got so sick about a moderator asking Harris a question about her intentions, allowing her to dodge them and launch into a word salad about Trump.
Fines levied against a candidate would be deducted from an advertising spending cap placed on each candidate. The money spent on a campaign has gotten so outrageous – nearly $2.5 Billion spent this year. Harris’s party alone spent $1.8 Billion of that total. Why not enforce a cap on spending, perhaps $500,000 million at most. Additionally, set a cap on the number of television commercials. Their vitriol about each other on our television time has gotten old.
Enact laws a candidate must win their primary, no short cuts like the Democrat party did with Harris. Her “selection” was not fair to either her or the Democrat voters who might have wanted someone better.
These elections coming down to the same “swing” seats every year is also absurd. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania get entirely too much publicity every election cycle. Perhaps a candidate must win both the electoral college and the popular vote to win the presidency. If unable, then implement a system where, for example, a county-by-county tallying system to reach a winner.
Every election cycle Illinois is shown as a blue state, embarrassingly in a sea of red. It’s not a blue state, most people outside of Chicago vote for the conservative candidate. The last time the state of Illinois voted for a Republican for president was Regan in 1984. Harris won only 13 counties out of 102 in Illinois and still won by 432,000 votes. It’s disheartening knowing that your Illinois Republican vote never counts because of Chicago machine politics. I know people who don’t vote because of this.
Worse, the District of Columbia has never voted for a Republican. Who’s idea was it to give them the vote if they are always going to vote for one side? (It’s also the wealthiest area of the country). On the other hand, there is the Republican stronghold states like Texas or Indiana.
Perhaps there might be a “weighting system,” to consider populations, such as 2 points for a county with a million plus voters and 1 point to a county with less. I’m just spit balling number, folks. Someone more intelligent than I might be able to develop a more equitable plan, but we need a way to stop big city machine politics steamrolling “down-staters” every election cycle.
Finally, how about a no-Hollywood endorsement rule? Who cares what they think. If someone votes according to the opinion of a singing Kansas City Chiefs fan, they are probably not bright enough to vote.
Now, we will be subjected to the flurry of lawsuits and “constitutional” tactics by the Democrat party to oust Trump during his term starting in early January. He will be accused of being senile and corrupt. Most likely, he will be shot at (again) and impeached (again) over the course of his last term. Already, racism and sexism is being reported as why Harris lost.
We’re too great a country to have election campaigns like we have endured over the past twenty years. For the love of God, remove the negativity.
