ENOUGH WITH DOUBLE STANDARDS - THE TRUTH ABOUT WAR POWERS

As expected, the Democrats are once again trotting out their usual talking points — this time, insisting that President Trump needed congressional approval before launching strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. Let’s be clear: this narrative is not only misleading, it’s hypocritical.

Since World War II, the majority of U.S. military actions — regardless of which party held the White House — have been carried out without a formal declaration of war from Congress. In fact, the United States has only formally declared war five times in its entire history, and not once since 1942.

Presidents from both parties have exercised this authority, often with bipartisan support or silence — especially when the president was a Democrat. But somehow, when Trump acts to protect U.S. interests by neutralizing a nuclear threat, it’s suddenly treated as an impeachable offense. The double standard is impossible to ignore.

Let’s Review the Facts:

Democratic Presidents Who Took Military Action Without a Declaration of War:

  1. Harry Truman – Deployed U.S. forces to Korea in 1950, launching a major war with no congressional declaration.
  2. John F. Kennedy – Escalated U.S. involvement in Vietnam by sending military advisors.
  3. Lyndon B. Johnson – Used the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (not a declaration of war) to launch full-scale military operations in Vietnam.
  4. Jimmy Carter – Authorized a failed hostage rescue mission in Iran.
  5. Bill Clinton – Launched airstrikes in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Iraq (including Operation Desert Fox in 1998).
  6. Barack Obama – Bombed Libya, and expanded drone operations in Syria, Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia — all without a declaration of war.
  7. Joe Biden – Continued or expanded drone strikes in Syria, Somalia, and Yemen.

Where was the outrage then? Where were the cries for impeachment? The silence from the left was deafening. Top Democrats have publicly acknowledged that Iran must be stopped from developing a nuclear weapon:

  • Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY): “Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
  • Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO): “The Iranian regime must not acquire a nuclear weapon…”
  • Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY): “It must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.”
  • Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ): “It’s unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon…”
  • Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR): Repeated concerns about “Iran’s nuclear ambitions.”

Yet when President Trump takes decisive action to enforce what both parties claim to support — preventing a nuclear Iran — the left loses its mind. Why? Because it’s Trump.

Final Thought:

No president since FDR has received a formal declaration of war for military action. Every modern commander-in-chief — Democrat and Republican — has acted abroad using the powers granted to the executive branch. This isn’t about war powers. It’s about politics.

The truth is, if President Trump had a (D) next to his name, the media and the left would be calling this a bold act of leadership. Instead, they’re using it — like everything else — to score cheap political points.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of the selective outrage.
