A TRUCKERS LETTER TO SANTA

December 14, 2014

Dear Nick,

It’s me, Web the Trucker. Been delivering your toys to warehouses all over the country the past couple months. Dispatch been keeping us real busy.

My brother, Joe just started driving with me about eight months ago after his fourth wife left him. Trucking is hard on family life, but something about Joe upsets women, Nick.

Have to leave in a bit for Seattle which delivers Thursday. Guess we’ll be spending Christmas pounding the road again and eating truckstop food, so won’t be home for Christmas.

This’ll be five years in a row I’ve missed you, but that’s life for us over-the-road truckers. While others enjoy holidays with families, we truckers beat the highways delivering the groceries and Christmas gifts folks need. I even delivered a load of wreaths to a cemetery.

I’m not complaining because I have a good job. Others aren’t so lucky. I read over 7 million people are unemployed. Shame since there’s so many driving jobs available.

Don’t need much at our house. If you could leave some Lego’s for Kane, a doll for little Ruby, and maybe a home gym for the Missus, I’d be grateful. Me, I have my family and the Lord, so I don’t need anything.

If you have extra gifts, Santa, please give them to the Toys for Tots program – they’ll find folks who aren’t as fortunate as us. Our office did a toy drive for the Marines Toys for Tots. Toys may be your schtick, Santa, but who’s gonna tell a Marine no? No kiddo should go without a Christmas present.

Please stop by St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis again, Nick. My head hurts to think of a child with cancer. Did you know they don’t even charge the parents? I have a donation taken from my check to send them. Ms. Marlo knows what to do with that money. She’s a saint, Nick.

Well, old man, I gotta get Joe out of the bunk to head west. That bum is already sleeping.

Stay safe out there, Nick. Maybe we’ll run across ya on the backside from Seattle.

Sincerely Yours,

Web
