CULTURAL ROT SEEPING INTO THE PARIS OLYMPICS
It didn’t take Paris long to tarnish the image of the Olympics, adding their name to historical notoriety with the likes of the ’72 Munich AND ’68 Mexico City games. Of course, I’m referring to the shameful act of shoving drag-queens down the world’s collective throat at the opening ceremony last Friday night, and in the process, possibly insulting 2.4 billion Christians worldwide.
For the record, I didn’t watch the show live but read, heard, and saw the clips about it over the ensuing weekend. To use a polite word, it was depressing. To use a not-so-polite word, it was disgusting.
At the center of the controversy is trans-genders spitefully mocking Jesus in the famous Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting of the Last Supper. This scene was part of an odd, unexplainable “fashion” show act, also including drag-queens. In the name of diversity, equity, and inclusion, DEI for short, and in poor taste, drag-queens portrayed the various disciples of the Last Supper. This even included one child in the scene.
At the end of the display, a serving tray was placed in front of a woman sitting at the center of the table, the position where Jesus sat in the painting. An inadequately dressed man painted blue, then appeared from inside a serving dish, much like a stuffed turkey at Thanksgiving. I don’t understand what this was supposed to symbolize, nor I bet, do you. It reminded me of the naked Ned Beatty falling down a mountainside in “Deliverance.” What does any of this have to do with sports? It seemed more of “in your face,” than a sporting event.
It’s not surprising we would have been subjected to this from France in this woke day and age. It was the “brainchild” of Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the opening ceremony. When asked about the backlash, he claimed to be “…unaware and perplexed about the criticism but was only trying to display inclusion.” As I understand it, Jolly’s frustrated at being misunderstood by a world that does not care for their religious beliefs being mocked by a cast of misfits. We have a word for him on the golf course that can’t be printed here.
Jolly also mentioned “we never wanted to be subversive, we wanted to talk about diversity.” In this scribes view, Jolly was heavier on the subversiveness than the diverseness. I think I’m in the majority on this one for a change too.
Why would he or the governing body of the Olympics think they should be pushing adverse lifestyles into the worlds televisions and children’s brains during such a special event broadcasted on prime time? One US company, the telecommunications company C-Spire pulled their advertising from the games, saying they were “shocked by the mockery of the Last Supper during the opening ceremonies.” Here’s to hoping others do the same.
On another note, the Olympics has added break-dancing as a new “sport.” People will now compete by spinning on their heads while judges determine who twirled on their head the best. Graffiti painting can’t be far behind.
On Sunday, Olympic honcho’s and various gay rights groups defended the spectacle. Predictable, but sad. How far the Olympic spectacle has fallen in today’s woke society. Consider the antics of the transgenders and drag queens of the day, as compared to great American Olympians past, such as Michael Phelps, Carl Lewis, or even recently, Simone Biles. Or the enormous feat by Jesse Owens showing up Hitler at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. And in my mind, the most spectacular event ever was when a bunch of rag-tag US hockey players beat the powerhouse Russia team at Lake Placid in 1980 at a time when America needed a kick in the pants. Yes, I did believe in miracles then, Al Michaels…now, not so much.
Many people, including me, won’t watch the Olympics this year, as I/we don’t care to being surprised or compromised by drag queens. I have no idea what else Jolly and his ilk have in store for us. I’m content to watch reruns of Blue Bloods, MASH or Andy Taylor instead.
What’s next in the name of DEI, live abortions performed by transgenders at the 2028 Olympic games in Los Angeles? It may be healthy for people to have their differences, but jeez, there has to be boundaries.
