TRUMP’S FIRST YEAR OF HIS SECOND TERM – A VIEW FROM CHEBANSE ILLINOIS
Written from the perspective of a 67-year-old former resident of Chebanse, IL, a Trump and MAGA supporter reflecting on the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term.
I grew up in Chebanse and still love that small town atmosphere. It’s nothing like this big city of Peotone where I now reside. I’ve worked hard, raised a family, paid my taxes, and watched this country go through a lot of ups and downs. I’ve seen presidents come and go, and I can honestly say that President Donald Trump stands out because he actually did what he said he would do. During the first year of his second term, I saw leadership that put America first again, not politicians, not foreign countries, and not special interests.
The Economy and Everyday Americans
What matters most to folks around here is whether we can afford groceries, gas, and a decent life for our kids and grandkids. Under President Trump, the economy has once again gained strength. Somewhat short of a miracle for the debacle he was left with.
- Tax Relief: The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act helped people like me keep more of what we earned. Small businesses and farmers around here benefited too.
- Jobs and Wages: Unemployment stayed low, including for minorities, and wages are improving. People who want to work can find work.
- Strong Markets: Retirement accounts and 401(k)s are setting records, which matters a lot, especially to those living off retirement funds and the chicken scratch they call Social Security.
- Less Red Tape: Trump cut back unnecessary regulations that were strangling small businesses and manufacturers.
Energy Independence and Lower Costs
Illinois families know what it means when energy prices go up. Trump understood that too.
- American Energy: By supporting oil, gas, and coal, Trump pushed us toward energy independence instead of relying on foreign countries.
- Lower Fuel Prices: Increased domestic production is bringing fuel prices lower, which matters whether you’re driving to work or hauling grain.
- Infrastructure Focus: Trump pushed for better roads, bridges, and highways, something rural America desperately needs.
Trade That Works for America
For years, politicians talked tough on trade and did nothing. Trump actually took action.
- Standing Up to China: Tariffs were used to protect American manufacturing and address unfair trade practices.
- USMCA: Trump fixed NAFTA and replaced it with the USMCA, which was better for American workers, farmers, and businesses.
- America First Trade Policy: He pulled the U.S. out of bad deals like the TPP that would have shipped more jobs overseas.
Border Security and Law & Order
A country without borders isn’t a country.
- Border Enforcement: Trump funded border security and took enforcement seriously. We have the safest border in American history.
- Immigration Laws: He enforced the laws on the books instead of ignoring them.
- Public Safety: Crime trends, including the murder rate, declined during this period.
Judges, Veterans, and the Military
Trump respected the Constitution and the people who serve this country.
- Judicial Appointments: He appointed conservative judges who believe in the Constitution as written, not legislating from the bench.
- Veterans Care: Reforms at the VA helped improve access and accountability for veterans.
- Strong Military: Trump rebuilt the military, increased funding, and made sure our troops had what they needed.
Peace Through Strength: Ending Wars and Avoiding New Ones
One of the things I respect most about President Trump is that he didn’t rush America into new wars.
- No New Wars: Unlike many past presidents, Trump did not start new foreign wars.
- Defeating ISIS: Under his leadership, ISIS lost its territorial caliphate.
- Middle East Stability: Trump helped broker the Abraham Accords, bringing historic peace agreements between Israel and several Arab nations.
- Troop Withdrawals: He reduced U.S. troop levels in long-running conflicts, pushing allies to take more responsibility.
Seeking Peace in the Russia–Ukraine Conflict
President Trump has been clear that endless war benefits no one except politicians and defense contractors.
- Pushing for Negotiation: Trump has consistently said the Russia–Ukraine conflict should be brought to the negotiating table.
- America as a Peacemaker: He believes strong leadership and diplomacy can end the bloodshed and prevent further escalation.
- Putting American Interests First: Trump’s approach focuses on peace while avoiding a wider war that could cost American lives and taxpayer dollars. Do you suppose he could win the Nobel Peace Prize? Despite numerous nominations, I’m betting he won’t be considered.
Confidence in the Country Again
- Economic Optimism: Business and consumer confidence improved because people believed someone was finally putting America first.
- Straight Talk: Trump spoke plainly, not like a career politician, and that mattered to people like me.
Final Thoughts from Chebanse
At 67 years old, I don’t have time for empty promises or political games. I care about my family, my community, and the future of this country. President Trump’s first year of his second term showed strong leadership, common sense, and a real commitment to America. That’s why I support him, and why I believe the MAGA movement still speaks for everyday Americans like the ones from my old hometown, Chebanse, Illinois.
