MORE POT SHOTS FROM AN OLD SOT
Touching the third rail again…
One-hundred-eleven (111). That’s the number of times former Director of NIAID Anthony Fauci pleaded the Fifth Amendment during a recent congressional hearing. Pleading the Fifth is a constitutional protection against self-incrimination or, some would say, a convenient way to avoid answering difficult questions.
Senator Rand Paul says he will seek contempt charges next week. Compare that to the contempt charges they would level against you or me before promptly tossing us in the pokey the same day.
Fauci’s repeated refusal to answer questions is reason enough to re-examine how the Fifth Amendment is applied in situations involving public officials. I feel quite certain this was not what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they ratified it in 1791. Fauci was a government employee, paid handsomely by taxpayers to oversee the health of Americans, a job I believe he failed at spectacularly.
More than likely Fauci will skate, and we, the unwashed, will never get to the bottom of a COVID pandemic that, in my opinion, he was instrumental in helping unleash upon the world.
Despite all the death, destruction, and evil Iran has inflicted upon its own people and others around the world, you have to admit they are a resilient den of thieves.
They have lost much of their nuclear capability and endured wave after wave of military strikes against missile sites, command centers, and drone facilities. America has nearly pounded them back into the Stone Age and yet, like a cockroach, they continue to survive.
Speaking of cockroaches, it is said there are only two things capable of surviving a nuclear war: cockroaches and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones.
Anybody know if that war is still going on over in Ukraine? It seems to have slipped completely off the radar of our media.
How about all that Communism, disguised as Socialism, popping up in large cities across America, including the Big Apple? Would you have ever thought people could become so poorly informed, or so self-centered, as to entertain the idea? There’s an old saying that’s still appropriate: “You can vote in Socialism, but you have to shoot your way back out of it.” Wake up, people!
I propose raising the voting age to twenty-five unless one has served in the military.
The wife and I recently went to see Motor City. It was the first movie in nearly seventy years on this planet where not a single line of dialogue was spoken. At first I assumed it was an artistic choice for the opening scene, but thirty minutes later it became obvious the silence would continue throughout the film.
Oddly enough, the story remained easy to follow. There was plenty of gory action, and the soundtrack was phenomenal, especially through the theater’s sound system. Still, Dawn and I left feeling cheated. We should have been warned. Consider this your warning instead. I give it two stars.
Didn’t see this coming. Right-wing firebrand Alex Jones, someone with whom I could reasonably be associated by some, has now come out in favor of impeaching President Trump because of our involvement in the Iranian conflict.
I fail to understand the backlash over neutralizing a regime that murders its own people at will. Had Trump not curtailed Iran’s nuclear ambitions, I believe they would eventually have used those weapons against someone. The Iranian government was as ruthless as it was cunning. It’s past time the world rid itself of that regime.
Methinks Jones is simply chasing another headline to boost his ratings.
Training camp has opened at the Green Bay Packers facility, and with it comes one of professional football’s finest traditions. The children of Packers players and hopefuls surrender their bicycles so the players can ride them to practice. It’s been going on since the days of Vince Lombardi, long before those children’s parents were even born.
Some traditions are worth preserving.
