The 2020 election marked a turning point in American politics. It showed serious problems in our election system that should worry every citizen, regardless of their political party. My concerns are not based solely on instinct or loyalty to a party. Instead, they come from what I see as significant irregularities, statistical questions, and information from newly released documents and ongoing investigations.

I believe the integrity of our elections is the foundation of our Constitutional Republic. Without trust that every legal vote is counted and that only eligible citizens are voting, we cannot fully restore public confidence in the government. Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent, every American should want elections that are transparent, secure, and trustworthy. The vast majority of Americans support the Save America Act.

Recent declassified documents and statements from government officials have raised more questions about election security. Some claims include allegations that China obtained about 220 million U.S. voter records, that the Department of Homeland Security found hundreds of thousands of non-citizens registered to vote in federal elections, and that intelligence on foreign election interference was withheld from senior officials and the public. Other statements mentioned concerns about foreign cyber operations targeting election infrastructure, the reopening of the FBI’s Muskegon voter fraud investigation, and potential weaknesses in voter registration systems.

Whether every allegation is ultimately proven or disproved, I think these issues need careful investigation instead of dismissal. The American people should expect transparency from their government and accountability from those in charge of securing our elections.

For this reason, I believe Congress should pass stronger election integrity measures. I think the SAVE America Act is an important step toward restoring public confidence in federal elections.

The legislation would require individuals registering to vote in federal elections to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. It would also mandate that voters present valid photo identification when voting in federal elections. The bill would require states to keep voter rolls updated by identifying and removing individuals who are not eligible to vote under federal law, establish procedures for verifying citizenship, and create civil and criminal penalties for certain violations related to voter registration. It also includes identification requirements for absentee voting.

To me, these are sensible safeguards rather than partisan policies. Americans commonly provide identification to board planes, cash checks, buy age-restricted products, and do many other everyday tasks. Ensuring that only eligible citizens vote and that each voter can be properly identified should be no different.

I understand that reasonable people may disagree on the best way to run elections. However, I believe every American should support the idea that only U.S. citizens should vote in federal elections and that our voter rolls should be accurate and secure. Again, polls show that most Americans agree.

Because of this belief, I have made a personal decision. I will no longer financially support or vote for candidates who oppose election integrity measures like the SAVE America Act. I believe restoring confidence in our elections should be one of the top priorities of the federal government.

America’s strength relies on the trust its citizens place in the electoral process. Regardless of party affiliation, we should aim for elections that are secure, transparent, and deserving of every voter’s trust. I believe the SAVE America Act is a crucial step toward achieving that goal.
