As you read, please remember I’m just a singer in a rock and roll band, not a medical professional. I have a surgeon friend though who will back every word said here. This rant concerns my irritation with people, including on television and face book, instructing me to stay home or wear masks.
Whenever we watch television, there seems to be a public service announcement reminding us to stay home and safe. Of particular annoyance are the entertainers telling us from within their mansions they’re “with us.” The ensuing commercials sell their products while reminding us about these “unprecedented times,” still pounding the virus theme.
By now, is there really anyone in this country unaware there is a virus going around? So why do we need to be reminded of this virus every ten minutes? Perhaps to keep it on your mind… and afraid?
Who determined we needed these commercials? Think about it, corporations paid major money to produce and broadcast virus commercials to play ad nauseum - while we’re already sitting at home! Might that define indoctrination?
By what right does anybody have to tell anyone else to stay home? They have no authority, whether they’re John Doe or the John Deer Corp. to tell anyone to stay home. You stay home if you have concerns about the virus. And I have no problem if you elect to stay home, especially if you have an underlying medical condition. But your fear comes to a screeching halt where others’ rights start!
As for the governors, have you noticed it’s the Democrat governors coming down so heavy-handed to keep people home? Have you given any thought as to why that would be? Suppose it might be political, or do you really think they just care more? Gradually, people are starting to ignore governors, as they should. I seethe when I hear some governor lackey say, “the governor’s going to “allow” people to do something….”
Governors in most states had authority to lock down their state for 30 days. We’ve passed that time. Going beyond that time is questionable, which will eventually bear out in court. Legislatures make laws, not obese billionaires who have bought governorship's, or confused governors sentencing elderly folks to die in nursing homes. It’s been proven politicians don’t have any better answers than anyone else.
We went out shopping to replace a couch the other day. We drove to a specific store we preferred. As we started to enter, a masked guard directed us to put on a mask. Being hard of hearing (too much rock and roll and forgot my hearing aides) I hadn’t heard him, but I saw his hand out, barring our way. I was going to ask my wife what he said. Too late! She was already reminding him of our rights. My girl! By the look on the part of his face we could see, he hadn’t thought about our rights.
If masks are effective, why is social distancing advocated? If social distancing is effective, why are masks advised? Are you aware the Surgeon General of the United States has said masks are not effective? Might this be more about compliance?
We’ll never shop that store again. They have a right to request masking, but we will exercise our right not to shop there. We went to a few other small businesses instead and bought other items. Those stores were delighted to see us, without masks. I read afterward that furniture store is near bankruptcy. Guess they should have sold us a couch.
Recently, MSNBC went to Wisconsin to do a story on the great unwashed not wearing masks in public. Ironically, they went to Lake Geneva, where Governor Pritzker’s family is hanging out in order to escape draconian Illinois. The reporter was pointing out miscreants who were not wearing masks, including one guy in a beautiful Packers jersey. On camera, Packer jersey-guy pointed out the reporter’s cameraman was not wearing a mask either. Hypocrisy thrives within governments and media.
Nobody has had a clear concept about what to do about this virus since its inception. They’re making it up as they go along, usually along political lines. The “experts” have changed directions often, and still don’t agree with each other. States and cities fudged death counts. We found out the WHO and CDC organizations are not totally reliable. WHO might have even been culpable in the spread and ultimate deaths of thousands.
Politicians seized on this matter instantaneously, shutting down the economy and snatching the rights of terrified American people, while the media cheered them on. Instead of clear, level-headed leadership from governors and legislatures, what we got was a hodge-podge of mostly erroneous notions that did nothing but cause millions of people their business or their jobs. Hopefully, we’ve learned a valuable lesson.
But what is most concerning about all this was how quickly people were to obey.
