I was enjoying a long weekend break with my family when the skirmish broke out in Charlottesville Virginia. With nine grand-munchkins and little access to news, I got behind on updates. Consequently, it was challenging catching up with what actually happened due primarily to media spin. It is much easier to keep up if you are paying attention from the beginning. But I will recount what I think I know.
As I now understand it, White Nationalists, Nazi sympathizers, the “Alt-Right,” and other right-wing groups of questionable character were granted a permit to hold an “Unite the Right” rally to protect a Confederate statue when they were met and clashed with “counter protestors.” At this point, I am not sure what comprises the group of people known as “counter protestors” as the media reports did not elaborate, nor does it appear that group had a permit. Given the media’s account of the right wingers, it appears that “counter protestors” meant “normal people.” The supposed leader of the “Unite the Right” group tried to give his account of the rally, but again, given the times we now live in, was unable to express his First Amendment right of free speech, due to being shouted down by the counter protestors.
Peculiarly, there also was not a proper police presence to keep the two sides apart and a woman was senselessly run over when a young man of questionable intellect, who seemed determined to punish the “counter protestors,” ran a car into the crowd, killing the poor young lady and injuring 19-20 more people. I was able to put this information together by reading and watching various accounts of the unfortunate episode. It is also apparent that the ugly head of racism was a factor in this melee.
However, I am not completely sure this is an accurate account of the events, as it would appear, given the various media accounts from the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, and other media sources of questionable integrity, that somehow, President Trump was involved. It is not clear to me how he actively participated in this vile act as it was my understanding he too was on holiday in New Jersey. Every story of the accounts in Charlottesville from the aforementioned media outlets included bonus coverage and opinions of President Trump’s responsibility in this horrific brawl. Thankfully, in spite of delusional rants by many on the Left, I was unable to find where he had yet been arrested or impeached for his involvement during my sabbatical.
This sad episode in American history was made even worse because, again according to what passes for media in this time, President Trump didn’t read from a politically correct script condemning just the right people for the reasons the media and those on the Left thought should be made. He also had the audacity to point out it took two sides to make a skirmish. He did condemn racism, although evidently not to the satisfaction of the politically correct.
The fact that President Trump didn’t “say” what others thought he should say points to why he was elected in the first place. Those that voted Mr. Trump to the highest office in the world were tired of the polished, politically correct, sanitized and scripted garble that has been spewing from the swamp of Washington DC for decades. And the press ran with this perceived gaffe, completely missing the point that the millions of American citizens who voted for Trump don’t care that he didn't meet the expectations of the Washington establishment. He said what he said, and it was correct and sufficient. No more was needed.
But one has to wonder if there was a more disturbing reason for the media and the Left to implicate President Trump in this terrible and inexcusable event. Gone from the headlines is the story of the looming nuclear holocaust with North Korea, that only days ago seemed inevitable given the perceived failings of our “feeble-minded” President and the erratic behavior of that loathsome dictator, Kim Jong Un. Just before our family left for the Dells we practiced sitting against the wall with our heads between our knees…just in case. (If you are young and have no idea what I’m talking about with that last sentence, ask your folks.)
Also ripped from the headlines is the apparent scandal with Debbie Wasserman Schultz and her Pakistani IT staffer, Imran Awan. Despite the limited media coverage, was it just me, or were you starting to wonder also how much of this story we have not been told, and who might be impacted if the details were uncovered?
And what about Russia? All of a sudden, daily news reports about President Trump being beholden and in collusion with Russian president Vladimir Putin waned somewhat. By allowing this hourly flogging to simmer down, also kicked to the sidelines was Bill and Hillary Clinton’s alleged entanglements with Russia, including the investigation of the Clinton Foundation. I'm still waiting to see why Hillary sold 20% of our uranium to Russia. How did Bill get a $500,000 speaking gig in Russia – is he really that good? By the way, did you know that Vladimir Putin is considered one of the ten wealthiest folks (almost typed men – my bad) in the world?
My father always called me a suspicious individual. Actually, he used another word implying something that dealt with his and my mother’s marital status at the time of my birth. I like to think I’m more guarded about things, particularly when it pertains to matters of the Swamp that is Washington DC.
