So, which Michigan beauty contestant is going to have the chutzpah to pick up the tiara ripped from Kathy Zhu’s head, plunk it on her own noggin, and head to Las Vegas for the Miss World America Organization contest? Think anyone will believe she really won the contest?
If you’re unaware of what I’m rambling about, Ms. Zhu (20) is the young lady, an American citizen of Chinese descent attending the University of Michigan, who won the Miss World America beauty contest for the state of Michigan. A day after being crowned she was emailed by the pageant’s state director, Lauri DeJack, she had been stripped of her title. The email stated: “It has been brought to the attention of Miss World America…that your social media accounts contain offensive, insensitive and inappropriate content.”
The comments DeJack is referring to were tweets from Zhu. In 2017 Zhu tweeted, “Did you know the majority of black deaths are caused by other blacks? Fix problems within your own community first before blaming others.” (Recall, she is Chinese, not Caucasian)
While possibly somewhat insensitive, a statement shouldn’t be considered offensive when true. There are plenty of other prominent black folks, Candace Owens, Star Parker, and Thomas Sowell to name a few, that have made similar comments. If you don’t believe she’s right, look no further than those unfortunate souls living on the south side of Chicago getting slaughtered daily.
Zhu’s other tweet/crime came last year when she was invited to try on a hijab, a head covering for Muslim women worn in public. She allegedly refused so they tried to “accessorize” her forcibly. Afterwards, she tweeted, “So you’re telling me that it’s now just a fashion accessory and not a religious thing? Or are you just trying to get women used to being oppressed under Islam?”
What reason does a person not of the Muslim faith need to wear a hijab? How would the Muslim Student Association have felt if OY, the Jewish Cultural Group requested everyone wear yarmulkes? Offensive, inappropriate, insensitive, or not, I’m not trying on either.
At most, Zhu might have been somewhat unkind but making comments, regardless of whether inconsiderate or not, is her 1st Amendment Right. A lot of good people died to make sure we can all make comments, insensitive or not. I do it all the time according to some readers. But to strip her crown over a couple of comments seems like there must have been something else at play.
Well, it happens there was something else in Zhu’s background that DeJack discovered which evidently didn’t sit well with pageant honchos. Seems Zhu is one of those low-life, good-for-nothing, love-it-or-leave it, conservative-type cranks like me. She’s also a Vice President of the schools College Republicans, and worst of all, (egad - don’t let the kids read this), a fervent Trump supporter. Can you imagine the anguish when pageant officials found out that a Trump supporter would represent them in the Miss World America pageant? Oh, the humiliation!
If it were me, I’d be looking for a lawyer to sue the bejesus out of the MWA for punishing her for using her 1st Amendment Right. This has the potential to cost her a tremendous amount of money. It’s not a crime in this country (yet) to make truthful comments, regardless of who thinks they might be politically incorrect and its high time Conservatives struck back.
On to another diatribe;
At a cost of forty plus million dollars, what did you think about the finale of last Wednesday’s clown act, hosted by Representative Jerry Nadler? The Democrats insisted on dragging out Robert Mueller, a doddering and confused old lawyer, for the world to see how inept he has been for the past two plus years chasing witches. Seems the Democrats thought Mueller was going to show up with some irrefutable proof that Trump kills babies and should be shot. (Oops, sorry, that’s the Democrats that do that.)
No wonder Mueller didn’t know what was in the Mueller Report…he didn’t write it Andrew Weisman, a “distinguished” lawyer and member of the Department of Justice, penned it. Weisman also was at Hillary’s “victory” party the night she was supposed to be coronated. No bias there, folks, just move on.
Two police officers are the fathers of five of my grandkids. I thought I was going to go blind with rage when I saw the video of those Harlem cretins dousing patrolmen with buckets of water in New York. Because of the environment established by liberals like America’s worst mayor, Bill DeBlasio, those officers have been rendered unable to defend themselves and its detestable.
We might be able to see our future from here.
I was asked often last week if I might write anything on the flap between President Trump and the malcontents known as the “Squad.” They’re the four freshmen US House of Representative women who may have become the face of the Democratic party. Dems might want to give that some more thought.
Given the beating the media has gleefully trumpeted on this dust-up between Trump and the Spurned-Socialist-Squad, I decided not to bore you with more of the obvious. If you’re a Never-Trumper you’ll not agree anyway, and the Trumpsters need no further explanation when considering the sources.
Additionally, it would be irrational to think the media might actually side with our current President on any matter, particularly when you have four women “of color” (as opposed to just being Americans) calling the president a racist. Nothing like a good old-fashioned racist claim to get the media stoked into a frenzy about the president they said wouldn’t win.
Speaking of winning, how about that stock market?
I considered writing about another malcontent, the kneeling Megan Rapinoe, of the US Women’s Soccer team. Of course, since she used her fifteen minutes of fame to blast Trump, the media was only too happy to oblige her an extra fifteen minutes.
Imitating a former mediocre NFL quarterback, she is yet another gifted, pampered athlete who snatched away a momentous American success by diminishing the event with her own personal bellyache. She shouldn’t have kneeled during our Anthem – it wasn’t her stage. She embarrassed her country in the eyes of most. Karma dictates someday she will fade into the same sports obscurity that the malcontent quarterback now wallows. (I guess I did write about it after all.)
Considering the aforementioned quarterback, look what he did for sales of Betsy Ross flag merchandise. I immediately bought my flag pin. In the meantime, Karma decrees his God-gifted quarterback skills will diminish as he languishes in the banalities of the liberal elites. Wonder which career he’ll look back on more fondly in his golden years? But I didn’t want to write about him either.
I have been wondering how you Pritzker voters are enjoying your extra nineteen cents per gallon tax on gas since the beginning of the month? Be interesting to see where that extra money really goes – perhaps fodder for another commentary.
Then there is that ludicrous situation at the border Trump has been barking about since he was just a candidate. Just four short months ago the Republican party finally got off their keasters to try to get it resolved. Now the Liberals, who have fought it the entire way, understand there really is a problem, but have still found a way to blame Trump.
Getting on with the commentary for the week:
Have you been paying attention to the presidential polls coming out, sixteen months before the next election? If so, I am compelled to ask why you’re wasting your time?
So you know, pollsters are a collaborative effort between media outlets and universities. That should give you your first clue the numbers might be skewed. How many managing editors or tenured Leftist professors do you suppose have a thumb on the data collection scale?
According to those polls, if the election were today, Biden beats Trump by ten points; Sanders beats him by seven points; Warren by five; and Harris by one. Even more of a hoot, some claim O’Rourke beats Trump! DeBlasio next?
This same time frame before the 2016 election, most of these “pollsters” had Hillary beating everybody soundly in the Republican field, especially Trump. Quinnipiac and CNN both stated Hillary would win by eighteen. USA Today claimed it would be seventeen. Gallup harrumphed Trump wasn’t a serious candidate.
A margin of eighteen points is considered a landslide. These numbers supposedly represent a country-wide attitude, and sadly help sway vast numbers of voters who really don’t take time to assess candidates. This is another way for the media to sway voters. Makes one wonder about the voting histories of “Independents.”
The Dems, with help from media, FBI, CIA, Attorney General’s office - and probably a sitting president - first rigged the Democratic primary to remove Sanders, gave Hillary the questions for the debate, paid for information from foreign entities, and then, “as insurance” master-minded a bogus Russian interference charge against Trump. Suppose this information spurred pollster numbers?
Yet, there the man sits in the Oval Office, much to the chagrin of the Spurned Socialist Squad, Maxine Waters, Al Green and other malcontents. And, the media will regurgitate false numbers even more in anticipation of helping their causes.
Ignore the malcontents and the polls, folks.
Surely, everybody has heard of the Rolling Stones rock band. Been around since 1962, an astonishing 57 years. Only Golden Earring, of “Radar Love” fame, has been around longer.
You may have gone to the Stones farewell concert at Wrigley recently. I didn’t attend as I went to their farewell concert for the “Bridges to Babylon” tour at the United Center back in 1998. (Been a long farewell tour.) Although a fan, once was enough for me.
I suppose most people have heard of the Glimmer Twins, known as Mick Jaggar (75) and the interminable Keith Richards (75), two of the founders of the Stones. Jaggar made news recently for a heart valve procedure in New York in April, delaying the tour a few months. (Notice the surgery was here in the “States” rather than over the pond in England with their socialized healthcare?) They, along with now-retired bassist Bill Wyman (82), drummer Charlie Watts (78), and deceased guitarist Brian Jones are generally known by music aficionado’s as the original five Rolling Stones. Jones, who drowned, was replaced in 1969 by Mick Taylor, and then again in 1975 by Ronnie Wood (72).
Did you know however, there was a sixth Rolling Stone? Or that he was fired from the Stones because his image did not fit the ever-increasing motley appearance of the Stones?
Scotsman Ian Andrew Robert Stewart was the first to answer an ad by Brian Jones about forming a new rhythm and blues band. He was a part of the new band a few months before Mick and Keith joined, and would stay there in some capacity until his death.
Ian, or “Stu” as he was called, was born on July 28th, 1938 on a farm in Fife, Scotland. His parents, John and Ann, lived in Surrey England due to John’s Army obligations. As they wanted their son to be born a 100% true Scotsman, Ann traveled the 460 miles to her parents’ Fife farm for Stu’s birth.
A piano prodigy from age six, he played in various amateur bands until he answered Jones’ ad in Jazz News magazine in May, 1962. At the time he was a shipping clerk at the Imperial Chemicals Industries. With a jaw comparable to Jay Leno, only bigger, Stu played piano and some organ for the band, both in concert and album recordings. It could be said it was he who introduced the Stones to blues music with works by Meade Lux Lewis and Scrapper Blackwell. His stage appearances were short-lived however.
In 1963, then-manager, the flamboyant, Andrew Oldham decided Ian’s image was just not right for the band. Whereas the Stones had become loud, cocky, and much hairier with the times, Stu looked ordinary, more like their accountant. Oldham convinced the members of the band to have Stu “retire,” as he claimed six mates were just too many for a band. Publicity pictures from that year only show the five Rolling Stones band members that would take the world by storm.
But Stu wasn’t done with the Stones, and the Stones weren’t done with him. They just didn’t want to see him on stage. He became their road manager, hauling them to gigs, setting up equipment, and tuning guitars. He also critiqued their nightly performances, an assessment the boys appreciated. He would call them his “little three-chord-wonders.”
Often, he would book the hotels in various cities. Rather than book in downtown hotel close to the girls, bars and nightlife the boys were looking for, he would book them in hotels that had golf courses so he could golf. Stu didn’t care for the drug/alcohol infused party life the rest of the band were partaking, and often lectured them about their debauchery.
Oldham left the Stones management in 1967, but Stu didn’t return to the stage until 1975. From that point, he picked which concerts he would appear. He did, however, appear on all their recordings until 1983. “Undercover” was the last album he recorded with the Stones.
In December of 1985, experiencing breathing problems, Stu went to the doctor. While in the waiting room, he died of a heart attack.
When the Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they made sure Ian Stewart was included as part of the enshrined band. In his 2010 memoirs, Richards said: "Ian Stewart. I'm still working for him. To me The Rolling Stones is his band. Without his knowledge and organization ... we'd be nowhere."
The word "compromise" is overused by Swamp Creatures and their media cronies. It has become pointless and unachievable in today's political atmosphere.
Our Congressmen are not the ideological enemies they and the press would like us to believe. They party together, entertain the same lobbyist, and visit the same watering holes as soon as cameras are turned off. The Swamp has always been just one good-old-boys club - a grand party on our dime.
That camaraderie tightened with Donald Trump's election of President in 2016. For the first time in forever, an outsider was being sent to the Swamp, and the creatures are horrified by the new sheriff we sent them. He’s brash and not one of them. He can’t be bought. They determined immediately he had to stopped, and will continue to promote his elimination and imprisonment. The Democrats are doing this fiercely, openly, and aggressively. Their RINO counterparts are doing it more passively so as not to offend their electoral base.
Trump threatens their survival. It won’t matter what he does, it needs to be condemned by the Swamp and trumpeted repetitively by an implicit media. Kill one-hundred-fifty Iranians and he will be labeled a war-monger. Back off from killing one-hundred-fifty Iranians and he's labeled spineless. Create jobs for minorities but be labeled a racist. Create the strongest economy in memory and it’s attributed to the inept Obama socialist experiment.Try to build a wall to stop the influx of illegal aliens at the border which Congress impedes, then blame the back up mess on Trump. The list goes on. Nothing he will ever do will be good enough according to the Swamp and their media henchmen.
Compromise is unachievable while Trump’s in office. We are stuck with Swamp resistance for the five additional years Trump will be president. Ignore the term the next time you hear some bubble-headed-bleach-blonde say "compromise," as it’s not going to happen.
Furthermore, I believe compromise should not be considered at this time either.
Throughout history, society has had laws, norms, and traditional values. If one broke the laws or some of the moral codes, one was removed from society by fines, prison or death. If one deviated from norms, for the most part one kept it to oneself.
Then those matters considered outside traditional values became causes. Those causes became agenda's in Congress that were compromised upon by unscrupulous politicians pandering for votes. And through this process, issues morphed into causes not having anything to do with normal life or making our nation better.
As a prime example, we were a Christian nation by birth, and by an almost unanimous majority. It says so on our Federal buildings and currency. Then God was thrown out of public places for the benefit of a few malcontents who were not really as much offended as looking for a cause to exploit. And politicians succumbed. Now we are to shun God publicly but be more considerate of Allah.
Other examples might be the depraved race hustler’s politicians pander to incessantly, particularly during election cycles. Reparations is the hot subject this time around.
Gay rights by gentle souls looking for nothing more than equal rights transformed into confusion over bathroom usage, gender uncertainty, and absolute demand of acceptance of bizarre lifestyles, particularly aimed at our youth, that are found objectionable by society. Now boys are identifying as girls to compete, and usually win, in girls’ sports.
Mental health terminology and treatment were determined cruel (and expensive) so the alternative became throwing people out in the streets...so as not to label them. We had to protect their "rights"said the Left and judges appointed by Obama. The result is rampant drug abuse, squalor, and diseases long thought extinct back in our cities. The west coast, where the Ninth Circuit Court reigns, has become one giant commune resembling the aftermath of an outdoor rock concert.
Marijuana is being legalized, state by state, for no other reason than the tax money politicians can get their hands on. What's next, heroin? In Illinois, it won’t be long until Gov. Pritzker legalizes prostitution.
These are but a few examples of many. It has all been a classic example of the old axiom, "give them an inch, they take a mile."
How much farther are we going to allow anarchistic rebels to take advantage of our politicians?
Will it be until we start killing babies? Oops that one is already out of the bag. Would the average sane person have believed we were capable of that ten years ago?
Perhaps we have compromised enough for awhile.
