Let me ask you a personal question? Do you "tweet?" This is not about the noises your peculiar brother-in-law makes, it means using a Twitter account to send a tweet expressing your thoughts. As I surmise my readers aren't of the under-thirty-generation, or media, Hollywood elitists, or Swamp Inhabitant, I'm going out on a limb and deduce you don’t tweet.
For the record, I don’t tweet. I do have a Twitter account. I don’t know what my username is, nor the password. So, to date, I remain tweetless.
Having said that, somewhere along the line I must have inadvertently hit a button or two that allowed tweets to be sent through email. And the person I get the most tweets from is our president. That was a mistake on my part. Not because I don’t appreciate what the man has to say, it's that he tweets so much. I get multiple emails from him daily. And usually his message is long enough one needs to click on the tweet to see the rest of his message. This brings you to a screen prompting for your username and password. And there I am, in password hell again.
Sorry President Trump, I am deleting your tweets now and waiting for the inevitable press delirium concerning your tweet…or possibly the fact you are still breathing. Then I can appreciate your message without going through the aggravation of yet another password.
I think I am on my son’s Twitter feed account. At least that’s what the email says. I see a couple words posted from him, usually words or people I have never heard before in my life. Some seem to be a sort of abbreviation or code-talking, but I’m not sure. I’ve clicked it a couple of times but it tells me he has me blocked from reading his tweets. Sorry son, why would you post something publicly that you didn’t want certain people to read? My blog and columns, as infuriating to some people as they seem to be, can be read by anybody.
Maybe it’s my age, but I don’t see the point with tweets. You just know tweets are nothing more than someone talking out loud without much forethought. Then they blast it out to a gazillion followers who are to be impressed by the sender’s wit or to commiserate with the sender in their outrage at whoever ate their last Oreo.
The real problem with this is that the media trolls take it so seriously. Donald Trump realized this early on and loves nothing better than to twist the media’s tail. He actually has a talent for it.
But what do I care what LeBron James or Tom Brady tweet out to anyone? (It’s not like they are Aaron Rogers for Pete’s sake) Seriously, what can someone tell us in one short sentence or outburst that is worth our time to read or digest? If you want dialogue, pull over to the side of the road and call someone.
But the media will run with a tweet from the “elite” among us and act like it’s news. “Lebron tweets he is unhappy with his new billion-dollar contract, details at 10:00!” Or how about, “Breaking news, in a tweet on Twitter, Donald Trump says Maxine Waters is a twit.” How does any of this pass for news, to be pushed forward by television, radio, or newsprint?
On the other hand, if I happened to figure out my user ID and passport and sent out a tweet that I thought Whoopi Goldberg should have defected to Canada like she promised, who will care? Of what value is any of the three comments to any of us – they are merely short outbursts, or the audible expression of thought, without much forethought.
Think about all the thoughts you have in a day, everything as mundane as having to do the dishes up to and including running off with Brad Pitt. (Note to the liberal crowd: before you go apoplectic and send me accusations of lobbing a thinly-veiled sexist misogynistic, or homophobic remark, please realize it was a metaphor, there are men who do dishes, and other men who dream of running off with Brad Pitt. I just don’t happen to be one of them for either) I would think none of us over the age of thirty, unless we work in media I guess, really care to hear off-the-cuff remarks from somebody we don’t know personally.
If I’m wrong, send me a tweet.
I really don’t like writing to defend President Trump every week. There are many more issues that need review and commentary about. However, the attacks on our president are fanatically relentless. Every week the left hauls out yet another crisis the media picks up like a lap dog, triggering Swamp People and Hollywood to wail over and…boom! we have a BOMBSHELL…NEWS AT 10:00. I’m getting weary just dodging bombshells.
It has gotten so bad that I’m afraid people reading this column are going to lose interest. My commentaries really weren’t meant to be a compendium called the Trump Defender. And yet, I feel compelled to say something rational in his defense, particularly here in the State of Madigan.
If you think about it, we had eight years of relative tranquility by a fawning media during the Great Socialist Experiment. Since, it has been an eighteen-month blitzkrieg of daily floggings about Trump by the media – a little bit of it even true!
This week’s shiny object to gawk and gnash teeth over is that Trump evidently made a verbal mistake concerning lack of support of our intelligence agencies, seemingly siding with Vladimir Putin, the Russian, over America. Reminds one of what the Democrats and their media arm do when siding with everybody and anything over the sitting American president.
Trump reversed himself a few days later claiming he used a wrong word. While I don’t believe Trump should put any stock in anything Russian goon Vladimir Putin utters, why would Trump have any faith in our intelligence? When swamp creatures James Comey, Jim Clapper, Peter Strzok, and John Brennan, to name a few, are being yanked out of the Swamp muck like catfish, only uglier, how could anyone trust the advice of that back-stabbing motley crew?
By the way, it was this crew that was asleep at the wheel when the Russian voter interference started. Our media must have been tenderly spooning the crew at this time as they didn’t bother to report on it either. Well, it was during the Great Socialist Experiment, when the press was slobbering on the “Chosen One.”
Then there is the bombshell report that Trump had a private meeting with Putin, and would you believe that SOB wouldn’t tell anyone what they talked about? One Face Booker suggested that perhaps Trump should tell the media that he and Putin were talking about golf and grandchildren. That explanation worked for the media during the Great Socialist Experiment. Or possibly he sold 20% more of our uranium.
Shortly before Trump signaled the end of the world as we know it with his “gaffe” in Helsinki, the media and the Swamp railed against Trump for the way he galumphed through Europe supposedly embarrassing us with poor decorum before the European Socialists at the NATO meetings. For the record, he didn’t embarrass me, how ‘bout you?
The national headlines were full of Monday-morning quarterbacks on Trumps many perceived faults when handling diplomatic relations, even down to his meeting with the Queen of England. Did you know, according to media sources, he had the audacity to be ten minutes late to a meeting with an elderly lady in a funny hat who has absolutely no authority whatsoever on the world stage?
Last week everyone in Washington and their media brethren were all aflutter about Trumps pick to replace Justice Kennedy on the Supreme Court. There is no reason to go too deep into this as, by all accounts he picked a great individual with Judge Kavanaugh which I have mentioned before. Suffice to say, Trump could have picked Jesus Christ and Chuck Schumer would have had a problem with it. Now that I write those words, I guess it would be true that Chuck and Company would be against Jesus since something inside me says Jesus just might not go along with this Roe v. Wade madness either.
The week before that the world was also going to collapse, and it was Trumps fault, because kids were being separated at the border from their parents. I believe that number was around 2,000- 3,000 children that were sadly separated when their parents, or people claiming to be their parents, illegally tried to enter the country. Why is it so hard for liberals to understand the word “illegally?” Are they really that obtuse?
Anyway, if they are so concerned about kids being separated from parents, where is their concern for those millions of children, who happen to be LEGAL US citizens and left alone when their parents are thrown in jail or sent overseas to defend our country? Here’s an idea, why can’t Americans come first?
Along with this issue, according to Liberal-think, it has become all the rage to eliminate the enforcement agency we have for ILLEGAL aliens coming across the border. As fermented in the minds of Liberals, and trumpeted and exploited by our media, the Immigration Customs Enforcement division, known as ICE, should now be eliminated because, well they are doing their job and stopping some of the flow of ILLEGAL aliens, known as future Democratic voters.
Now, I want all of you to keep in mind, these ILLEGAL alien issues and ICE all existed during the time the Great Socialist Experiment was in authority. Oddly, we didn’t hear much about this problem then – why do you suppose the national media didn’t pick it up and exploit it back then? If you have a legitimate answer to that question, I’ll pay you five dollars.
Sorry, but I’m starting to blur some of the perceived Trump blunders and time-lines as I write this. The week before all this I think Trump ate the entire third grade class at a New Jersey parochial school…or was that last month?
But through all this, one raging question keeps rattling around in this thick head of mine. Who was able to shut Maxine Waters up about impeaching Trump?
Despite jeers from a couple of snowflakes, I received overwhelming support from people when they read or heard my last blog about being let go by our local newspaper. And I have to admit, being sacked was not only a shock, it hurt. Obviously, nobody likes to be let go, and I have to admit, in my lifetime, it hasn't happened very often. Even though I was doing it for no pay, I really liked that gig.
So, I was heartened to see and hear encouragement within the community. I was particularly humbled by the devoted support from a wonderful group of widows.
Evidently, part of the reason for my dilemma can be traced to the seventh word in this commentary. The term "snowflakes," was used, which everyone realizes is code-word for whiny, spoiled liberals. I had the audacity to use the term, and other similar terms in past commentaries. And well, apparently in this country one just can't point out the king isn't wearing clothes anymore – it upsets said liberals. It has somehow become "politically incorrect" and woe-be-tied to the person caught in the PC cross-hairs. If one happens to be of a conservative nature in today’s culture one is supposed to remain silent and just let liberals "do their thing."
I understand the need for liberal thinking individuals. Well, sort of. Seriously, there needs to be a counter-balance to every idea or concept, and conservatives certainly don't have all the answers...even me! But as the great Ronald Regan stated, "It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so."
Most all of us start out thinking liberally. It's human nature - we want to help others. And there truly are people or causes that need our compassion and help. But that should be our option, not obligation, particularly not at the behest of some pinhead with a specific cause of the week.
When you realize it’s time to grow up, at some point you get a job, get married, have a few kids and commence with the average person's struggle to achieve the American dream. It doesn't matter what race or sex you are, you have a shot at the "brass ring." Because you live in the US of A, the greatest nation the world has ever known, you can now actually see your goal - it's there within your reach if only you keep your shoulder to the grindstone. You realize your dream is not going to happen tomorrow; it will take years of hard work, sacrifice and struggle, but it's attainable...unlike any other country in the world.
And then one day you realize there are those who take shortcuts or drop out completely, perfectly content to let the government take care of them, while they enjoy the American dream on the backs of others. Sensible individuals recognize the American dream will not work if everyone does as they do - we can't all live off the government or soon, the government owns us. You understand this, not only in your pocketbook, but in your soul. It's as instinctual as waking up in the morning.
Yet, there are those that shun work while accepting handouts from the government. They do this without shame - as if we and/or the government owe them something. Many justify it by being victims of some perceived "noble" cause, worthy of participating in your sweat equity. And they vote in large blocs for the politician that promises them even more of what they didn't earn. And along the way you notice the politician is helping him/herself to a healthy slice of your sweat-equity-pie as well. You understand the government makes no money, it's people that do, and the government distributes other people’s money as THEY see fit.
Worse, are those liberals that know better, but justify this lifestyle as it keeps them employed and/or affluent, such as the tenured or double-dipping government employee. Politicians and wealthy-elitist are also part of this group of individuals…although I may have repeated myself. They all game the system through pensions, tax loopholes, and/or clout…on our dime.
The group I haven't figured out though is our media. Other than to sell their wares - information in the form of print, radio, and television - what reason do they have to sit on the sidelines and cheer on a leftist or socialist agenda? The media, evidently desperately in a need of sensationalism, has become the vehicle of broadcast for the left and has ran with it to the point that Pandora's Box may have been opened.
Socialism looms and nobody seems to know how to get the genie back in the bottle. Or perhaps, with the election of Donald Trump, the "silent majority" has finally had enough of the Socialist experiment and stuffed the genie back in her jug.
Unceremoniously, my commentary was dumped by the Kankakee Daily Journal last week, without notice. Seems I might be a little too controversial, even if I was doing it for free.
If you’ve been keeping up with newscasts, there was a mass shooting June 28th at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis MD. Five employees of the newspaper were tragically shot dead by a cretin with a vendetta against the paper for reporting the legal consequences of his stalking of a young lady.
I guess it was fine when nuts shot up schools, churches, businesses, military bases, etc., because, after all, that is good for sales of the paper. But this business about shooting up a media outlet, we just can’t have anyone shooting up brethren – changes need to be made.
A daily newspaper, the Capital, can trace its heritage back to 1884. It is owned by the Baltimore Sun Media Group and has a circulation of about 33,000.
Interestingly, the Daily Journal can trace its roots back almost as far, 1903, and has a comparable circulation of 29,000. And almost eerily, Journal reporter Jeff Bonty reported July 7th of a blockhead who burnt down his ex-girlfriend’s parents’ home because she rebuffed him.
In order to avoid attracting the sort of individual that stalks women or shoots people, the Journal has evidently decided to be less confrontational with its content. Or given the fact that Michelle Malkin and Ben Shapiro columns appeared over the weekend perhaps it was just content supplied by yours truly.
Now, if you’re thinking I’m not going to write any more commentaries because of fear of some knuckle-dragger criticizing or assailing me, you’d be incorrect. But the Journal is. At least that was how it was explained to me.
At any rate, it was requested by an editor that upper management needed me to “tone it down” somewhat. The person issuing the edict prefers discreetness evidently. For the record, the last commentary they had from me to be published was entirely about golf and nothing political.
I would feel horrible if my words were to cause anyone harm. But I am not about to fear words or relinquish my First Amendment right of free speech just to assuage the anxieties of someone who can’t handle facts. This is not Missouri State University. As Ben Franklin stated, “they who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety.”
I’m not going to be muzzled. Admittedly, I will lose about 27,000 pairs of eyes…but my dignity will remain intact. I will also have my Face Book account and blog at www.webberswhippingpost.com to continue to point out any effort to push our country towards Socialism or blatant acts of theft or inane political correctness.
I owe this to my grandchildren…as well as the lady who followed her paperboy telling customers to cancel subscriptions to the Journal because of me. You see, that’s what Liberals do – if they don’t like something, nobody should be allowed to like it either. According to Liberal-think, we all should suffer equally…as in Socialism. I guess it never occurred to her to just not read the column or put it at the bottom of the bird cage like normal people would do.
What do you suppose the Founding Fathers would think if they heard someone was being muzzled in the press in order not to offend or upset anybody? They fought a bloody war over it, for crying out loud.
We all know of the plight by great American hero’s such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, but consider the suffering of NJ Chief Justice, Richard Stockton, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Captured by the British in the middle of the night and fleeced of his possessions he spent time in prison in Perth Amboy NJ and Provost NY, where he was put in irons, starved, and treated so poorly his health was ruined. While Mr. Stockton was doing time in prison, renowned British General Cornwallis helped himself to Mr. Stockton’s estate and summarily ruined, killed, or burned all property and livestock, including one of the best libraries in the Colonies. When Cornwallis was done, it more than likely resembled the aftermath of a Move-On.org rally.
It’s difficult not to suspect ulterior motives behind any censorship. Looking back through my blog one will find multiple posts which were submitted as commentary, in defense of President Trump or pointing out fallacies of the left-leaning media, the need for tort reform, or the mistake that was the Socialist experiment of Barack Obama. Nobody else in the area is standing up to say these things, at least publicly. But there are a bunch that believe it.
To those of you who followed my column, and took time to express words of support, or even those who politely disagreed, I want to thank you for reading. I am truly grateful. Hope to see you on my blog.
The Missus and I observed another wedding anniversary recently. To mark the occasion, I treated her to a Grateful Dead concert in Wisconsin. Seemed like a grand gesture on my part but imagine my surprise to learn she was uninspired. The woman evidently has no appreciation for soaring guitar mastery, timeless classic rock…and mediocre vocals.
We stayed the night at Lake Geneva. To atone for my apparent faux-pas we went for a boat ride around the lake to observe how the other half lives in their stately mansions. While you may think that wonderful, and it was for her, I would rather have a root canal than a boat ride. So, repentance has been achieved.
At the last “Dead” concert at the same location two years earlier, some reprobate ripped the Trump decal off my vehicle. I found it wadded into a ball on the ground. So, this time, I donned my “Trump For President 2020,” shirt and headed out for our day around Lake Geneva. Let’s see someone rip the shirt off me.
I was keenly cognizant of reactions from people. No one said anything confrontational. There were smiles, disgusted stares, head shakes, and finger points, but thankfully nobody accosted me. (I'm too old to fight...and run.) Five people commented positively. Almost to a person, they praised the intestinal fortitude of my attire. (They actually used another phrase.)
On the drive home I contemplated the state of the union under the guardianship of President Trump. There has been so much that has improved in this country for America. The list has gotten rather considerable and I have mentioned items in past columns. You would be hard pressed to come up with one American citizen that has been affected negatively by one act of the president.
However, in my life I have never seen such acrimony and divide among our fellow countrymen. Trump Derangement Syndrome has disturbed Liberals and Never-Trumper’s in ways never imagined. It seems every time Mr. Trump utters a word they run further towards Socialism, at the same time Latin American's are fleeing Socialism.
This is no longer the Democratic party of even Bill Clinton, which only concluded in 2001. We went from “United We Stand” after the horrible 9/11/01 attack to this harsh state of incivility towards each other.
The rant of this past week by the Left was the ridiculous notion to abolish ICE, of which few know little about. It’s ridiculous because it follows the flavor the week before of railing for help to illegal aliens…right after Trump cracked down on the practice. You see, the two rants go side-by-side. Funny, I didn’t hear anyone from the Left or Hollywood taking illegal immigrants into their homes.
Time Magazine went so far as to put a picture of a Hispanic girl looking up imploringly at a scowling Trump. You don’t think the media is slanted – the picture of the little girl was taken during Obama’s presidency.
The silent majority is not daft. We know this anarchy to be nothing more than voter recruitment. Just twelve years ago, Barack Obama said “Those who enter the country illegally, and those that employ them disrespect the rule of law. They are showing disregard for those who are following the law. We cannot allow people to pour into the US undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting lawfully to become immigrants.”
A check of the internet will find similar quotes about the same time by other top Democrats, such as Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, who quite frankly seem to be losing control of the asylum.
Then in the middle of all this ranting to have open borders and nobody checking ILLEGAL immigrants, SCOTUS Justice Kennedy tossed in a bomb. At 81-years-old, after meeting with Trump, he is retiring. I don’t think the words were all the way out of his mouth before Chuck Schumer dashed to the Senate floor and pronounced that, whoever Trump nominated to replace Kennedy, he would instruct the Dems to vote against that person. At the time, nobody knew who Trump would nominate.
(Sadly, in an act of newfound political-gamesmanship Trump then floated right-wing Conservative, Amy Barrett, and the man he really wants, Brett Kavanaugh. Just so happens Mr. Kavanaugh clerked for… Justice Kennedy.)
How is this constant resistance and friction helping our country? We aren’t going to un-elect Trump regardless of how many tantrums the unseemly Maxine Waters throws.
If the Democrats keep up with their agenda, I predict there will be a red tsunami hit this country in November. And if so, the Left will no longer have a voice at all.
